Freelancer mode on Work — now available without an Orb

Today we’re making freelancer mode on Work more accessible: you can now verify with a simple selfie — no Orb required.

Not everyone has an Orb nearby

World ID through Orb is a reliable way to prove you’re a unique human, not a bot. But Orb locations are physically limited — they’re not in every city, and getting to the nearest one isn’t always easy. As a result, tens of thousands of Work users never completed this verification — and stayed locked out of freelancer mode, even though they clearly wanted in.

Just one selfie

Selfie Check is a lighter way to prove there’s a real person behind the camera — no Orb visit, no waiting, just a quick selfie from your phone. We were among the first in the World App ecosystem to add this option, and freelancer mode on Work now unlocks with either Orb or Selfie Check: if you’re already Orb-verified, nothing changes for you, and everyone else no longer needs to find a physical station to start earning. Adding this turned out to be surprisingly quick and easy — without changing anything else in how Work works.

Getting started

Open Work, head to freelancer mode, and choose selfie verification if it’s available for your version of the app. It takes less than a minute — and you can start applying to jobs and earning WLD right away. We keep making Work more accessible to everyone who wants to work — Orb or no Orb. Open Work and give it a try!
