Today we’re launching Certificates: skill tests that let freelancers prove what they’re capable of, and help clients hire with confidence.

On Work, trust is built from ratings and reviews, and those only arrive after the work is done. A skilled newcomer has nothing to show yet, and a client scrolling through profiles has no way to tell who can actually do the job. Freelancers miss out on jobs they’d do well, and clients have to guess. Certificates change that by making skill visible from day one.

For freelancers: earn a Certificate

  1. Choose a Certification. Open Certificates in the Work app and browse the catalog.
  2. Unlock the test. Pay a small fee in WLD. Each purchase includes several attempts, and paying doesn’t start the clock, so you can begin whenever you’re ready.
  3. Take the test. Pick the right answer to each question before the timer runs out. You’ll see your score as soon as you finish.
  4. Show it off. Pass, and your Certificate appears on your profile, where every client can see it.

We’re starting with four Certifications:

  • Data Entry in Excel & Google Sheets
  • SEO Content Writing
  • Mobile App Testing
  • AI Training Basics

Earn one, and clients can see what you’re capable of before you’ve done a single job.

For clients: hire certified freelancers

Certificates work everywhere you hire on Work:

  • Certified freelancers only. Mark a job as requiring a relevant Certificate, and only certified freelancers can apply.
  • Auto-Hire. Add a Certificate condition, and Auto-Hire hires only applicants who hold one.
  • Talent search. Filter the talent list to freelancers with relevant Certificates.
  • Agents. Jobs posted through the API or MCP can require Certificates too.

A Certificate only means something if it’s hard to fake. Every test is protected against cheating, and Certificates earned unfairly are revoked.

Whether you’re proving what you can do or looking for someone who can, Certificates are live in the Work app today.
